Gas prices historically rise with the temperature and so do the miles we drive. With so much warm weather driving ahead, it pays to take steps to maximize the amount of miles you can get out of every gallon of gas. Fortunately, you don't have to buy a hybrid to reduce the amount of gas you'll use this summer. Try these unbelievably easy tips to improve your vehicle's gas mileage:

1. Check your tire pressure-
Where the rubber meets the road s also where your gas mileage meets your wallet. Keeping tires properly inflated is one of the easiest, cheapest ways to improve fuel economy. Under-inflation an shave up to 2% off efficiency per every 8 ounces per square inch (PSI) that your tire's under inflated. Check air pressure at least once a month when tires are cold, and definitely before you leave on a long road trip.

2. Lighten up
Summer travelers can require you to haul a lot of things, keep in mind every extra 100 lbs packed can reduce your MPG by 1%. Rooftop carriers create extra drag that can slash your fuel economy as much as 25% at highway speeds. Pack only the essentials to carry inside the vehicle to improve mileage.

3. Be a courteous driver
Turns out being an aggressive driver on the road is its own punishment. Speeding, tailgating, hard breaking & accelerating, or erratic lane changes can reduce your MPG by a third on the highway. Slow your roll and be courteous, you will be safer and have better MPG.

4. Switch to low rolling resistance tires
Friction and hot tires create drag on tires, slowing your vehicle down and decreasing fuel efficiency. Low rolling resistance tires are designed to minimize the energy wasted as heat, and studies show they can help motorists save money.

5. Ease on the A/C
It is not just an urban legend; running the air conditioning really does affect fuel economy. At slower speeds it is more fuel efficient to just roll the windows down. On the highway, open windows create drag that will affect efficiency more than the A/C might.
