Audit & Inspection tips

All insurance companies as part of the binding requirements, do a phone inspection/audit. The purpose of this inspection is to make sure that everything on your insurance application is true and correct.

You will be contacted by an inspection company (inspection companies are hired by insurance companies to do this type of work). The inspector will ask you questions about your business, for example, the type of work that you do. They will also ask you for your payroll, gross receipts, and sub costs.

** Please note that any subcontractors you use must name you as additional insured on their insurance policy- past, present, and future.

They will be asking these questions to make sure that what you told your agency and what is on the application match. So it is very important to remember what you told your agency.

Possibly request a copy of the application you signed, so you will know exactly what you signed for.

If you're in the field when an inspector calls, and you do not know your payroll or gross sales off the top of your head. DON'T GUESS!! Tell the inspector you will need to get home or to the office to look over your paperwork to answer the questions.

Make sure to answer the questions accurately.
